The narrator tells us from the start that Fortunato has inflicted harm on him. In addition, Fortunato has insulted him. The narrator must avenge. The ordeal begins when the narrator meets Fortunato who is excessively drunk and lures him in order to get revenge against him (Thomas Johnson 105).
